History

From 1850 to 1978

In July of the thirtieth year of Daoguang (1850), Zhang Jingxiu resigned and returned to his hometown to build Keyuan.

From 1855 to 1864, the famous Lingnan painter Ju Chao and Ju Lian served as a staff member with Zhang Jingxiu, and lived in Keyuan for ten years, teaching apprentices in sketching and painting, perfecting and disseminating the painting techniques of Mogu(没骨), Zhuangshui(撞水), and Zhuangfen(撞粉).

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Boke (the fourth generation of the Zhang family in Keyuan) invited Lin Zhimian and Li Wenfu to prepare anti-Qing propaganda activities in Keyuan. Not only that, Zhang Boke also pretended to be kidnapped to get 5,000 silver dollar to support the uprising of the New Army.

After the liberation of Dongguan in October 1949, Keyuan was divided into peasant houses during the land reform.

In the 50s of the 20th century, Keyuan was changed to Boxia Village Nursing Home.

In 1961, the Dongguan County People's Government began to restore Keyuan.

In 1964, under the care of comrade Tao Zhu, Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Comrade Lin Ruo, Secretary of the Dongguan County Party Committee, directly led the restoration work of Keyuan.

Completed at the beginning of 1966, Keyuan was officially opened to the public.

In October 1966, the "Cultural Revolution" began, and Keyuan was closed to the public. At the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution", the lion climbing platform(狮子上楼台), the moon worship platform(拜月台) and the Zishu platform(滋树台) were demolished.

In the 70s of the 20th century, Keyuan was changed to an Overseas Chinese Travel Service.


From 1979 to 2008

In 1979, the Keyuan Management Office was officially listed and placed under the management of Dongguan County Cultural Bureau. After two years of maintenance, the park was reopened in 1981 to receive visitors.

In 1989, Keyuan was listed as a cultural relics protection unit in Guangdong Province.

On September 11, 1998, the joint meeting of the Dongguan Municipal Government decided to change the name of Dongguan Keyuan Management Institute to "Dongguan Keyuan Museum"; On November 1, the listing ceremony was held.

On July 18, 2001, the State Council announced that Dongguan Keyuan Museum was the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

On April 22, 2008, the opening ceremony of the new Keyuan Museum was held.
